Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia and ASEAN Sashikala Premawardhane paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Sugiono at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta on 10 August 2026.

Ambassador Premawardhane conveyed the greetings of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath to Minister Sugiono and recalled the invitation extended by Minister Herath for Minister Sugiono to visit Sri Lanka at a mutually convenient time.

Extending his best wishes to Minister Herath and Ambassador Premawardhane, Minister Sugiono expressed his willingness to visit Sri Lanka at a convenient time in the future, noting the importance of revitalizing the longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries and recognizing the critical importance of high-level exchanges in further strengthening bilateral ties.

The discussions focused on enhancing connectivity and people-to-people contacts; strengthening economic and investment relations; expanding cooperation in defence and security; and promoting cooperation in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, as well as in regional fora, including ASEAN.

The implementation of existing bilateral instruments, including the Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, and the early conclusion of other bilateral instruments in the political, economic and defence spheres were emphasised as critical to achieving stronger and more streamlined cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta.
