Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, who is currently on a visit to Indonesia, held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Manpower of Indonesia Prof. Yassierli, at the Ministry of Manpower on 17 September 2026.
Minister Fernando and his delegation were warmly welcomed by Minister Yassierli. Both sides expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to meet and exchange views.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the strengths and challenges of the labour forces and labour conditions in the two countries, as well as their respective labour protection and social security systems, with a view to sharing experiences and learning from each other.
Both sides also agreed to establish an institutional framework for cooperation in the labour sector. The framework will seek to strengthen connectivity between the two countries and further enhance bilateral relations, including people-to-people contacts. In light of current trends in labour mobility between the two countries, the two sides emphasized the need to establish a collective mechanism to address the issues.
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia and ASEAN Sashikala Premawardhane, the Controller General of Imports and Exports of Sri Lanka, T. T. Upulmalee Premathilaka, and the Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta Nilanthi K. Pelawaththage.
